It’s important to provide employee tax file numbers
When an employee provides you with their TFN number, by law you are required to provide this information to their super fund within 14 days or when you make the first SG contribution payment on their behalf.
If you fail to provide an employees' TFN:
- Your employee will be unable to make any additional personal contributions and may miss out on government co-contributions
- Your employee may be charged extra tax on their super
- You, the employer, may be fined by the ATO
