Navigating market volatility with a long-term perspective
With the recent volatility in the investment market, we want to reassure you that your super is being managed with the utmost care and expertise.
During uncertain times, it is important to remember that the core fundamentals of superannuation remain the same – long-term real growth and this reinforces the need to focus on long-term investment strategy and objectives.
The past has shown that after periods of volatility, markets typically recover any losses. This is a key reason to stay invested and maintain your long-term strategy.
Strong long-term returns
At REI Super, we seek to reduce the impacts of volatility over the long-term by investing your super in various asset classes and financial markets.
Our balanced investment option has an investment timeframe of ten years plus and is suitable for members who are comfortable with a negative return in three to less than four years in every 20 years.
The balanced investment option invests mainly in growth assets – Australian shares, international shares, global property, unlisted property, listed and unlisted infrastructure with substantial defensive assets – Australian bonds, international bonds, private credit and cash.
For the twelve months to 28 February 2025, the REI Super balanced (MySuper) investment option achieved a net investment return of 10.04%, and the Pension balanced investment option achieved a net investment return of 10.43%.
We’re here to help
We strongly urge all members to seek advice before making any changes to their investment options. Often the best thing to do is to review your long-term strategy, considering your own personal circumstances at that time and goals.
As an REI Super member, you have access to limited financial advice about your REI Super account at no extra cost. This includes advice on which of our investment options may be right for you.
If you require advice beyond your super account with us, you can speak with one of our advisers who can provide you with comprehensive advice based on your circumstances at an additional cost.
